Yes, I’ve been M.I.A…After successfully completing our first competition and having placed to qualify for the Provincial Championships I was even more “pumped” to take it to the next level. For the next two weeks I made tremendous progress adding even more muscle to my physique! But then it hit me…A FIVE WEEK FUNK!
After achieving a major goal many people suffer from a form of “Goal Withdrawal”. This often happens after experiencing the “thrill of victory” followed by the “Now what?” when there is no new goal to work towards. But I had a new goal so what was behind my funk? It was a combination of things…finding it increasingly difficult to cope with the loss of my brother, using up any “free time” looking for a new home, and still trying to maintain the same level of focus in my training and diet. I could handle any two of these but with all three I found my breaking point. So one week of “EXCUSES” turned into two weeks of “PROCRASTINATION” followed by three weeks of “JUSTIFICATIONS”, four weeks of “RATIONALIZATION” and finally a fifth week of “DESPERATION”.
Thank goodness a family vacation to Alberta took me out of my familiar surroundings and comfortable routine for a fresh perspective. I found myself re-engaged by a simple daily circuit of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) runs in a nearby soccer field interspersed with sets of max chin-ups and push-ups. The total workout only took between 20-25min.
And so upon my return home began my FOUR WEEKS OF REDEMPTION! However, our house-hunting was heating up as we got closer to making a decision to buy OR build and where. NOW THIS…within the same week 1) we made the committment to build, 2) put our house up for sale, 3) SOLD our house, 4) had BOTH of our computers breakdown (with only 1 returning), and 5) we travelled to San Diego for business/pleasure with both kids. Now we have to be out of our house by September 23rd AND the Provincial Championships are on September 24th! We’ve also had to find temporary accomodations from September 23rd until mid-December while our new home is being built.
My first reaction to all this was that there was NO WAY I was going to be able to compete on September 24th in the Provincial Championships. Especially considering I had already lost valuable ground during my “Five Week Funk”. So NOW WHAT? That will be the topic of my next blog post, and how today a message from “Beyond” gave me the answer I needed…
